With three games in the last weekend this year's Latvian championships has finished. Champions were known before the last round – FK Ventspils celebrated the title win, but still they influenced the fight for the second place.

Ventspils could have helped Skonto by beating Liepājas Metalurgs in a head-to-head match. That it did not happen – champions lost at their ground to Liepāja 0:2. Ģirts Karlsons shocked the home team in the first minute and later Andrejs Prohorenkovs made it 2:0.

Liepājas Metalurgs' win meant that the result of Skonto – FK Rīga match did not influence the standings. Skonto won 3:1, but it did not help to improve their place and Paul Ashworth's side landed in the third position, right after Liepājas Metalurgs.

It is important to mention that FK Ventspils' striker Vīts Rimkus became the top scorer of Virslīga for the second consecutive year. This time Rimkus scored 14 goals.
