Estonia U-21 is out of qualification race

03/03/2010 - Estonian U-21 national team’s chances to progress to European qualification group stage crashed after 0:2 away defeat to Georgia.

If Estonia would’ve won they would’ve climbed up to the second spot in Group 2 but according to the head coach Frank Bernhardt his team does not stand a chance. This means that in rest of games Bernhardt will probably field a younger team to prepare for the next campaign.

Georgia went ahead on 44. minute when Revaz Barabadze headed in a cross from right. In the second half Estonia pushed for an equalizer, but it was Georgia who produced their second goal on 93. minute.

“We were better in the second half but unfortunately couldn’t use our opportunities,” said Bernhardt. “Georgia has good players and their season is half-way through while we are just getting started.”

Georgia hosted Estonia in Tbilisi at Mikheil Meskhi stadium which was in frankly awful condition. “There were so many holes and bumps on the pitch that no football match should be played on this kind of field,” said Bernhardt.

Estonia is currently third in the table. The leader is Switzerland with 16 points (from 7 games), ahead of Turkey who has 10 points after 6 games, Estonia has 9 points (7 games), Georgia has 8 points (6 games), Armenia has 4 points (6 games) and Repbulic of Ireland has 4 points (6 games).
