Last season champions, SK Liepajas Metalurgs, still hoping to keep Baltic League cup for another year. To achieve this goal, Liepaja’s players have to overcome opponents from FK Riga in their first ¼ final battle on 4th of June in Liepaja. Doing poorly in domestic league (only 6th place in the table at the moment) Metalurgs still flying high in Baltics, loosing only one game in group stage (to “Kaunas”). It is clear, that considering results in LMT Virsliga, for Jurijs Andrejevs (head coach of Liepaja) every game can be the last now. Knowing this fact it is obvious that Liepaja players will fight for a win in home game against rivals from Riga.
FK Riga is doing a lot better in Latvian Championship, comparing to Metalurgs. It seems that new FK Riga coach, Genadijs Morozovs is finding right words to motivate his players in every game. It is first season for FK Riga in TrioBet Baltic League, and first place on a group stage can be defined as a success for Latvian club.
Teams met just a couple of weeks before, making a draw 2:2 in LMT Virsliga on 17th of May with Metalurgs equalizing only on 90th minute with Rimkjavicius goal.
Metalurgs is definitely wants to show that it was just an accident and they are still one of the leading football teams in Baltics, while TrioBet Baltic League best goalscorer Mihails Miholaps from FK “Riga” (3 goals during stage group games) will try to proof them wrong!
