Lithuania’s good run ends in Serbia
An excellent start to Lithuania’s World Cup 2010 qualifying campaign and a run of four straight victories in official matches came to an abrupt end in Serbia where Lithuania suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the hosts.
The Lithuanians conceded a goal from a corner right at the start of the match in the 6th minute and could not bounce back from the set back. The Serbs added a second goal in the 34th minute and then cemented their victory at the end of the second half.
Also, Arūnas Klimavičius was sent off in the 75th minute after a hand ball right on the goal line. ˇydrūnas Karčemarskas made an excellent save from the following penalty but sadly that did not have any influence on the match’s final outcome.
Serbia now moves up to first place in the group while Lithuania is second only on goal difference. The Lithuanians will now play the Faroe Islands in Kaunas on Wednesday, 15th of October.
